My friends over at BDRSuite have just announced the release of BDRSuite version 7.0.0, offering to expand on their comprehensive backup and recovery capabilities for a wide range of environments. Previously, they introduced game-changing features like KVM backup and recovery as it was always a part of the enterprise that required the same level of data protection as the likes of VMware, Hyper-V and Physical Servers, one could argue that a lot of the workloads that land on KVM server are just as mission-critical to the enterprise that lands on more well known and widely used platforms.
BDRSuite Version 7.0.0 brings centralised backup for major database systems namely MySQL (in most of the organisations I have worked with, there usually is a MySQL DB in use, flexible repository options, streamlined backup agent installation via automation, offsite backup copy support, and standalone tape library compatibility,
Some of the Key (but not necessarily new) features:
KVM Backup and Recovery:
BDRSuite has achieved seamless integration with the KVM Hypervisor, offering a streamlined solution for agentless backup of KVM virtual machines.
BDRSuite employs advanced changed block tracking technology to ensure efficient backups, while also providing the convenience of automated scheduling. This gives you a hassle-free experience when managing your backup tasks. Additionally, with its versatile recovery options, BDRSuite empowers you with full control over the restoration of your virtual machines. You can opt to restore them in their entirety, recover specific files, or choose from a range of other recovery possibilities, and best of all you can leverage public cloud technologies such as Azure, Google Cloud and Wasabi.
Azure Backup and Recovery:
BDRSuite has expanded its capabilities to offer agentless backup support for Azure virtual machines, utilising Azure Native APIs. This enhancement enables you to harness the advantages of incremental backups, effectively optimising your storage resources.
Furthermore, automated scheduling and a wide range of recovery options put you in control of your data protection strategy. As always, BDRSuite ensures adaptability to various backup storage destinations ensures effortless integration with your existing infrastructure.
AWS Backup and Recovery:
In the past, BDRSuite allowed you to set up automated snapshots for safeguarding your EC2 instances, storing them within your AWS account.
However, with the release of BDRSuite v7.0.0, you now have the freedom not only to create snapshots but also to decide where your backup data should be stored: whether locally or in the cloud. This grants you the ability to tailor your backup strategy to your unique requirements, ensuring that you can seamlessly recover your instances from your chosen storage location.
PostgreSQL Backup and Recovery:
BDRSuite now offers backup capabilities for PostgreSQL databases, with application-level backups and customisable policies.
File Share Backup and Recovery:
Backup file shares on NAS devices, Windows, and Linux machines, with flexible scheduling, data retention, and file/folder restoration.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA):
with 2FA, this offers an additional layer of security is now available for our BDRSuite Servers, including the Backup Server, Offsite DR Server, and BDRCloud. With 2FA, your data is even more secure, as it ensures that only authorised users, who have the correct login credentials and a verification code sent via email, can access their account. This improvement strengthens the security of an organisation’s critical data.
While this release doesn’t appear to introduce anything new per se to its feature set, it does however provide some cool enhancements including:
- Centralised Backup for SQL Server and MySQL
- Add Folder Path as Backup Repository
- Offsite Copy Support for Backup Jobs with Object Storage Repository targets
- Support for Standalone Tape Drives
- Missed Backup Schedule Report
- Automatic Backup Agent Installation
In closing:
These new features and enhancements in BDRSuite v7.0.0 offer improved backup and recovery options for a wide range of data environments and provide enhanced security and automation features, and at the rate that the BDRSuite team is releasing new and exciting features, it won’t be log until this already great solution gets better and better.
