It’s nearly a new year, and VMware has just released ESXi 6.7 ESXi670-201912001 patch on the 19th December, I had a quick browse through the release notes and theres quite a few things they have resolved which is great to see!
Among the fixes, is a DNS resolving fix :
PR 2396958: DNS short name of ESXi hosts cannot be resolved
The DNS short name of ESXi hosts cannot be resolved. You see an error similar to:nslookup <shortname>** server can't find <shortname>: SERVFAIL
Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDN) resolve as expected.
If you have read some of my earlier posts – DNS seems to be my biggest enemy when working in virtual environments. (It’s a love\hate relationship)
Whilst I dont think I have ever encountered this particular error in ESXI6.5 – Anytime I do see a DNS bug fix I feel victorious and relieved!
Anyway – have a look through the resolved fixes in the patch release, go on – I know you want to.
