Microsoft is not a backup company, They provide platforms to house other solutions on top of, as well as their own. Whilst Microsoft does provide some level of recovery when things go wrong, they do not provide the same level (and service) that one would come to expect to be able to recover singular items (granular restore). And the importance of being granular when times are dire is essential. Let me give you an example.

Say, you lost access to your Exchange mailbox sitting in Office 365 (and yes Microsoft Office 365 outages do happen! – this is one from just this week as an example), and you needed to view a particular email from approx 60 days and it’s contents urgently.

Without a proper backup solution in place, you would typically have to restore the whole mailbox (and potentially overwrite the current one’s contents). and even worse if it is post 30 days – then you may not be able to recover at all!!

Through granular recovery (and only offered through a robust backup and recovery solution), you are able to choose the item (i.e email) that you wish to restore and also, where you want to recover to! There is no use attempting to recover to the original location if the outage still remains! To this point Recovery to is as important as recovery from! So being able to export to multiple portable formats like .PST, .EML, .VCF, .ICF allows more options for the recovery to part!

A few of the cool features I wanted to cover off from BDRSuite for Office 365 Backup solution

Mailbox and singular mail restore

Probably the most common scenario is when users in your organisation delete important emails by accident. You saw in the scenario above, why this is important, and the level of recovery needed when outages happen. With BDRSuite for Office 365 solution, you can restore selected user mailbox or individual mails quickly and easily enabling a faster RTO for your business!

Teams Backup

Microsoft Teams is everywhere, it has become the central core hub for all things collaborations – and to this end, users are storing shared documents within the teams when they are spun up for projects and initiatives. While there is typically storage and Sharepoint sites also spun up in the background when a team is created by a user, this also becomes a challenge to manage the lifecycle and of course – the recovery options to ensure the information remains accessbile and recoverable should it accidentally get deleted. Through Vembu solution, provides an easy click and restore capability allowing easy recovery and protection of this valuable information.

In closing

While these two features are just a subset of what the Vembu backup solution platform has to offer – you can see from the user scenarios above why having such a solution (up and above what Office 365 gives you natively) is so crucial in your own business continuity story.
